Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located many other smeared cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials stated they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for details.
A senior representative said the attack left him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
